The Yerington Task Force is offering strategies to support those who have lost loved ones to suicide in a free “postvention” workshop Tuesday, February 28 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the Central Branch Library.

“This will be an opportunity to explore feelings around the unique loss of a loved one by suicide and how to keep one’s self and others safe in the aftermath,” explained Misty Allen, facilitator for the workshop from Nevada’s Office of Suicide Prevention.

Attendees will learn how to recognize invitations for help, how to reach out and offer support, and how to link people to community resources such as the Crisis Call Center, survivors of suicide bereavement support groups, and the 211 service referral system.

The Yerington Task Force is a community partner of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey. Light refreshments will be provided by the group.

If you’d like to schedule a suicide prevention or postvention workshop for your group, call Misty Allen, Suicide Prevention Coordinator of Nevada, at (775) 443-7843.

If you are in a crisis situation and need help, support or information, you can call the free Crisis Call Center’s hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-273-8255 or  (775) 784-8090. In addition to the 24-hour crisis hotline, the Crisis Call center also offers crisis intervention services through text messaging. To access this service, text the keyword ANSWER to 839863.
