CITY OF RENO NEWS RELEASE
Starting Friday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m., the I-80 Virginia Street/Eighth Street westbound off-ramp will be closed for extensive utility work related to the North Virginia Interceptor Project. The off-ramp will re-open on Monday, January 30 at 5:00 a.m.
Traffic detour signs will be set up for traffic to access Virginia Street and Center Street. Drivers wanting to exit at the I-80 Virginia Street/Eighth Street west bound off-ramp will be detoured to Keystone Avenue then back onto I-80 eastbound to Virginia Street. Motorists are also encouraged to use 5th Street to Virginia Street after exiting at Keystone. The Wells Avenue I-80 westbound off-ramp is open and can be used as an alternate route to Virginia Street. Motorists are encouraged to take Wells Avenue south to Sixth Street and west to Virginia Street.
For safety reasons, parking on the street will not be possible within the construction traffic control zones during construction. Individuals may be required to park their vehicles outside the closure and walk to businesses or residences. Please remember businesses in the area will remain open during construction.
The North Virginia Interceptor Project is a comprehensive sewer plan that will allow for increased capacity to handle tributary waste flows from existing, proposed, and future developments in North Reno and associated areas. The entire construction project will run in phases until August 2012. The current phase continues until March and includes 8th Street, I-80 off-ramp, and North Virginia Street between 8th Street and Artemesia Street.
The timing and scheduling of this project has been coordinated extensively with the I-80 Design Build Project, the new University of Nevada, Reno residence hall opening Fall 2012, UNR Special Events, the Highland Ditch (irrigation season start March 15, 2012), the RTC Pedestrian Improvement Project (North Virginia and Sierra Streets), and Reno Special Events.
