KINGS BEACH, Calif. — A Sierra snowstorm blanketed the slopes last weekend at Kirkwood Mountain Resort with more than three feet of snow building anticipation for this spring’s FREERIDE FLOW FESTIVAL.
Taking place over St. Patrick’s Day weekend, March 16-18, 2012, and just in time for spring conditions, Subaru presents the FREERIDE FLOW FESTIVAL sponsored by CLIF Bar and Marmot has teamed up with some of the best and well-known pro skiers, riders and athletes to provide three unprecedented days of backcountry, Freeride and yoga clinics as well as performances by some of the nation’s most talented electronic DJs at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.
According to Kirkwood, the resort has the geographical advantage of being situated at a higher elevation than most other Lake Tahoe resorts. It rests at the high point on the western slope of the Sierra allowing the resort to take full advantage of powerful winter storms as they peel off the Pacific Ocean. This ideal location regularly results in Kirkwood receiving more snow than any other resort in the nation.
All FREERIDE FLOW FESTIVAL clinics will be lead by certified and professional guides in addition to some of the biggest and most talented athletes in their respective industries. Major athletes and instructors include: Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, professional big mountain skier; Alison Gannett, leading the KEEN Rippin’ Chix Backcountry Camp and Steeps Clinics; legendary ski pioneer Kent Krietler, as backcountry guide and meditation instructor; Lorenzo Worster, world renowned telemark skier; Hannah Hardaway, two-time Olympian. Additionally, internationally certified and nationally acclaimed Pradeep Teotia is scheduled to teach two exclusive and limited capacity yoga workshops and Miranda Dalton of San Francisco’s AstaYoga will be teaching at the festival. Music will also be pumping all day and night at the festival including an appearance by electronic house DJ Miss Cooper and the Rhino before the duo heads to world renowned ULTRA Music Festival in Miami. Additional artists to be announced.
