MOANA NURSERY NEWS RELEASE

Moana Nursery again joined the ranks of the horticulture industry’s top independent garden centers when it was named one of Today’s Garden Center’s Revolutionary 100—for the fourth straight year.

The program surveys garden center owners and managers and culminates in a listing of the 100 most revolutionary garden centers in the nation. It is open to all independent garden centers, large and small, and is based on leadership and innovation, not on size or revenue.

“We are honored to make this list for four years in a row,” says owner Christie Gescheider.  “One of the major benefits of this award is the opportunity to network with other superior garden centers from around the country in Atlanta where we shared new ideas and visited the country’s largest market for new home and garden merchandise. Our team of three has returned from the four-day trip, invigorated and excited to share with our teammates and customers all that we learned plus the new products we discovered.”

Garden center owners and managers across the United States fill out an extensive online questionnaire covering topics such as customer and community service, management philosophy, marketing, use of technology, purchasing and profitability.  The entrants are ranked according to a point system, and the top 100 top entries make the list.

Since 1967, locally owned Moana Nursery has been serving the landscape and gardening needs of northern Nevada and the high desert from three locations in Reno/Sparks: 1100 W. Moana Lane, 11301 So. Virginia St. and 7655 Pyramid Highway.  Each full-service garden center is home to a Wild Birds Unlimited store that is part of the original and largest franchise of backyard bird feeding and nature specialty stores.  Moana Nursery also specializes in both residential and commercial landscape design and installation.

“The garden centers that made this year’s list are an exceptional group of forward-thinking independent retailers who survived a tough economy, which helps their community,” says Today’s Garden Center Editor Carol Miller.  “We are proud to call them revolutionary.”

The 2012 Revolutionary 100 Awards program is sponsored by one of the premier industry suppliers for greenhouse structures, Nexus Greenhouse Corp.

More information on the Revolutionary 100, including the complete listing, can be found in the January issue of Today’s Garden Center magazine and at www.Revolutionary100.com.  More information about Moana Nursery and its three local garden centers plus landscape services can be found at www.moananursery.com.
