ELKO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management, Elko District, Wells Field Office’s Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Spruce Mountain Restoration Project is now available for public review until March 2.
The project, proposed on public land south of Wells, Nev., is needed to reduce expansion of pinyon-juniper woodlands, invasive weeds and hazardous fuels; restore previous wildfire damage, healthy forests, rangelands and wildlife habitat and protect historic pinyon-juniper woodlands and cultural resources. Various treatment types are analyzed in the EA including prescribed fire, hand thinning, mastication, herbicide application and seeding.
Public scoping for this project was initiated in January 2011. The BLM incorporated comments received during the public scoping process and developed a proposed action and alternatives for the restoration project.
The EA is available for public review online at http://on.doi.gov/elkoBLM, under NEPA, Projects under National Environmental Policy Act review.
