SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
If you are looking for last minute “gift” ideas, the Reno Ronald McDonald House has two solutions. Dillard’s department store is offering a special custom edition of the Southern Living Christmas Cookbook. Visit the Dillard’s in the Summit Sierra Mall to pick up this holiday cookbook for only $10. Your purchase will benefit the local Ronald McDonald House and makes a difference in the lives of northern Nevada families. You can also directly give the gift of comfort to children and their families while getting tax relief by making a year-end charitable donation. You have until 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2011 to make your tax-deductible contribution. With the potential changes in our tax laws, this year might be the last for those who are age 70½ or older to make a tax free distribution from their IRA. The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 includes an extension of the IRA Charitable Rollover through December 31, 2011. If you or a loved one own an IRA and are age 70½ or older, you may transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to the Reno Ronald McDonald House to help fund its annual expenses. With over 87% of revenue coming from contributions, community support is critical to the success of Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Nevada. One hundred percent of donations stay in northern Nevada.
The Reno Ronald McDonald House provides a home-away-from-home to families with children in the hospital, during the holidays and every day. Children heal faster and cope better when their family is with them. The holidays are often stressful for families, more so when there is a sick child receiving out of town care. Many of our parents struggle to make the holiday special for their children as they deal with unfinished shopping, family members scattered and the overwhelming fear and uncertainty that comes with having a child in the hospital. Volunteers and staff at the House ease that burden and help preserve a sense of normalcy by decorating the House, distributing gifts and making holiday meals. Parents who call our House “home” can spend more time with their sick children instead of worrying about where they can afford to stay, their next meal, where they will lay their head at night to rest or holiday pressures.
“At Reno Ronald McDonald House, we strive to give comfort to parents with sick children every day and this holiday season is no different,” said Marty Ozer, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Nevada. “The families that stay at our house are just like yours. They come from all walks of life and all have one thing in common: they have unexpectedly found themselves far from home with a sick child.” For additional information on how to make year-end gifts or the Reno Ronald McDonald House, please contact Marty Ozer at (775) 322-4663 or visit www.rmhc-reno.org.
About the Reno Ronald McDonald House
The Reno Ronald McDonald House is home-away-from-home for up to 12 families at a time. The children we serve suffer from many different medical conditions ranging from premature babies in need of extended hospital stays, to children suffering from injuries caused by ski accidents during the winter months and more serious ailments such as cancer, diabetes and pneumonia. In order to stay at the House, families must have a child receiving medical treatment at a local hospital or clinic and live more than 30 miles away from Reno. This year, the Reno Ronald McDonald House will give families more time for special moments together, that is the greatest gift of all. In 2012, Ronald McDonald House will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Please help us comfort families this holiday season and sustain our services for another 25 years by donating online at www.rmhc-reno.org. No matter the size, the cumulative impact of the gifts you give is profound.
