Breathe Easy Tobacco Cessation Program – Starts Jan. 5
If you are interested in quitting smoking, or any tobacco use, Saint Mary’s Breathe Easy Tobacco Cessation program is for you. Beginning on Thursday, Jan. 5, and ending on Feb. 9, a Mayo Clinic-certified tobacco treatment specialist will provide participants with the tools they need to quit using tobacco. Classes will be held every Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Health Enhancement at 1625 East Prater Way in Sparks. The cost of the class is $95. Joint Replacement Pre-Surgery Education Class – Jan. 11 and 25
Learn how to prepare for a knee or hip replacement surgery and what role you play in your recovery by attending a free education class. Classes will be held on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All classes are presented by an orthopedic nurse, physical and occupational therapists and a case manager. Jump Start a Healthy Life Program- Starts Jan. 11
Studies show that 50 percent of our health over time is directly related to healthy lifestyle habits. Jump Start a Healthy Life provides information about nutrition, fitness and stress management to help individuals develop a personalized plan to improve overall health. It includes a computerized risk assessment of family and personal health history, lifestyle practices, social support factors and blood test results and is taught by registered dietitians, certified fitness professionals, registered nurses and behaviorists. The class is held every Wednesday beginning Jan. 11 through Feb. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Health Enhancement at 1625 East Prater Way in Sparks. Free Chronic Disease Management Class Series – Begins Jan. 19
If you are 55 or older and have arthritis, heart or lung problems, high blood pressure, cancer or other chronic conditions, our free six-week class is for you. During the program, you will learn how to manage your chronic disease through exercise techniques, community resources, setting goals and tips on optimizing your relationship with your physician. The class series will meet weekly on Thursdays starting on Jan. 19 through Feb. 23, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at city of Reno Neil Road Recreation Center at 3925 Neil Road in Reno. Saint Mary’s offers a variety of options to protect yourself and your family from the flu this season. Saint Mary’s Immunizations are offered appointment-only flu shots at 1625 E. Prater Way in Sparks or by calling 770-6210. Additionally, The Clinic at Walmart operated by Saint Mary’s Medical Group offers immunizations at both of its locations at 5065 Pyramid Hwy in Spanish Springs and 4855 Kietzke Lane in Reno. Sports physicals offered at the clinic at Walmart – evening and weekend hours
Saint Mary’s Medical Group now offers sports physicals at both of its Clinic at Walmart locations: 5065 Pyramid Highway in Spanish Springs and 4855 Kietzke Lane in Reno. Cost of the physical is only $40, and most insurance plans are accepted in addition to cash, debit and credit cards. Hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 770.7664.
Lung Cancer CT Screening
Saint Mary’s Center for Cancer now offers a safe low-dose CT screening for detecting lung cancer. The new technology reduces cancer deaths by 20 percent compared with traditional chest X-rays. Ideal candidates for this screening are those aged 55-74 years old with a history of smoking. Screenings require a physician order and cost $199, which includes the CT exam and radiologist interpretation fees. To learn more, call 770-7775.
New ER services for senior patients
A new line of emergency services is available to senior patients visiting Saint Mary’s ER. The re-designed ER includes nurses who have specialized training in the care of seniors, nurse coaches who monitor follow-up care and a home health liaison who can provide home care options for patients. Additionally, Saint Mary’s ER is more comfortable and accommodating for all patients.
