NEVADA STATE PARKS NEWS RELEASE

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — Celebrate the New Year with park rangers on a fun outing around Spooner Lake. This free First Day Hike is sponsored by the National Association of State Park Directors. Park entrance fees are waived for participants in the hike, or snowshoe, depending upon snow availability.

WHAT: Spooner Lake hike/snowshoe

WHEN: Sunday, January 1, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

WHERE: Spooner Lake State Park, a half-mile north on Highway 28 from the Highway 50/28 junction west of Spooner Summit. Meet in the upper parking lot. Look for park vehicles.

WHO: The event is free and open to the public. It is hosted by Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park staff and the Spooner Cross-Country Ski concession.

COST:  Park fees are waived for this event. If the Spooner Cross-Country Ski concession is in operation, vouchers will be made available for all participants to trade for trails passes and snowshoes will be available for rent.

MORE: The hike/snowshoe is an easy two miles. Children are welcome, but dogs are not permitted. Please dress warm, bring a snack and water. In the event of severe weather, the event may be cancelled. Please call for up-to-date information.
