RENO, Nev. – Dermody Properties has announced that its annual Thanksgiving Capstone Award will be presented to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, and the Nevada Wolverines Basketball Program. The Capstone Award is granted each year during the holiday season to one or more nonprofit organizations to help them continue their good works throughout the holidays.
With the rising cost of food and triple the number of people needing their assistance, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada will use the $25,000 gift to purchase protein rich foods, including eggs, yogurt and cheese. This gift will enable the Food Bank to provide 100,000 nutritious meals to 14,616 families. Dermody Properties also presented the Food Bank with its first order of high protein items, a pallet of eggs and yogurt that will be distributed by the Food Bank this coming week.
“Giving back to our communities is a vital part of the Dermody Properties mission,” said Michael Dermody, Chairman and CEO of Dermody Properties. “We created the Capstone Award in 2007 as a way to say ‘thank you’ to a community that has helped us succeed, and we are fortunate to be able to continue this tradition. We are proud to share our success by helping community organizations through initiatives like the Capstone Award and our employee directed Dermody Properties Foundation.”
Another recipient of the Capstone Award, the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund will use the gift to encourage continued education by awarding four-year scholarships to the children of U.S. military personnel who are killed or permanently disabled in an operational mission or training accident.
Dermody Properties also awarded a Capstone gift to the Nevada Wolverines Basketball Program, managed by The Children’s Cabinet, to assist them in their mission to help children by enabling the development of social, athletic, and academic skills.
The Capstone Award is directed by the Executive Management Committee of Dermody Properties, which includes Doug Lanning, Partner and Chief Financial Officer, John Atwell, Partner and Chief Operating Officer and Director of Development, Doug Kiersey, Partner and President, and Michael Dermody, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
