gbljpreview_2-300x203-5919865-7110787WHAT: The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows hosts a kick-off event for a new kindness initiative memorializing local philanthropist Jack Reviglio this New Years Eve. Volunteers are set to create hundreds of day packs to be used by St. Vincent’s Food Pantry as part of the “Give Back Like Jack” program that is designed to inspire random acts of kindness and volunteerism in the community. “Give Back Like Jack” encourages people simply to engage in small daily activities that positively affect a friend, family member, co-worker or even a perfect stranger in a positive way, much like Reviglio was so well-known for.

WHO: The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, together with Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, Our Lady of the Snows and the University of Nevada, invite the community to participate in “Give Back Like Jack” throughout the New Year and beyond in order to help create a sense of kindness and camaraderie in the community.

WHEN: Supplies for day packs are delivered to the Club Thursday, Dec. 29 at 10 a.m. at which time, Mike Wurm, the Club’s chief professional officer, is available for interviews.

Day packs are assembled on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31, beginning at 9 p.m.

WHERE: Boys & Girls Club Donald W. Reynolds Facility, 2680 E. Ninth St., Reno, Nev.

WHY: “Give Back Like Jack” is a memorial to Reviglio who was so well known for his kindness and philanthropy throughout northern Nevada. Reviglio worked often with the five non-profit organizations that have created the initiative and is the organizations’ way of helping continue spread the kindness that was so often experienced thanks to Reviglio and his family. Examples of Reviglio’s reach into the community can be viewed via videos on the Web site www.GiveBackLikeJack.org.

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is the leading non-profit youth services agency in northern Nevada. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for children, ages 0 to 18, in the Truckee Meadows through afterschool, summer and track break programming and services. The Club is committed to creating healthy children, in body and mind, with a sense of competence, usefulness, responsibility, belonging and influence, through diverse programs and community involvement. Founded in 1976, the Club now serves nearly 10,000 children at 18 sites throughout the Truckee Meadows. At all of its sites, the Boys & Girls Club strives to provide kids with positive and productive outlets for their energy with programs such as afterschool tutoring, character and leadership development, healthy lifestyles, athletics and art. And while the Club invests nearly $500 annually into each of its members, memberships cost just $20 per year, providing equal opportunity to all children in the community.
