SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office wants to help residents enjoy a safe and happy holiday season by offering daily safety tips via Twitter at @washoesheriff.

The Sheriff’s Office will tweet the tips for 12 straight days, beginning Monday, November 21, and running through Friday, December 2. The tips are intended to help you stay safe while shopping, celebrating, traveling, or at home.

“Now is the time to start talking with family and friends about keeping safe during a very exciting and busy time of year,” Washoe County Sheriff Michael Haley said. “Following a few extra precautions while you are out shopping, travelling or spending time at home can help to keep this the joyful season it is intended to be.”

Sheriff Haley also recommends that the holidays are also a good time to get to know your neighbors if you have not already done so. This includes the people who live next door, across the street and over the back fence.

“Neighbors watching out for neighbors help keep an eye out for suspicious activity and make communities safer,” he said.

Another way to increase home security is by signing up for the free online neighborhood safety service, Alert ID, or by starting Neighborhood Watch program. For more information on both, visit the Washoe County Sheriff’s website: www.Washoesheriff.com.
