NOVS NEWS RELEASE

The Nevada Office of Veterans Services will present a reading event at Sundance Books and Music on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. for veterans who participated in the Veterans Writing Project class during the fall.

Through the writing project, veterans and family members learned and developed skills during a six-week course through instruction in fiction and nonfiction by professors from the University of Nevada, Reno, Truckee Meadows Community College and Western Nevada College. These veterans will now have an opportunity to read their creative works in a public reading event.

“This is a continuation of the writing project and an opportunity for the veterans to present their work to the public,” said Caleb Cage, director of NOVS. “Whether they present narratives about their personal military experience or fictional stories, it’s an opportunity for the public to see the talents these veterans have honed with instruction from the contributing professors.”

This is the first writing and reading project the NOVS has conducted in northern Nevada. A Veterans Writing Project was held in Las Vegas in 2010, and it is Cage’s plan to continue and expand these events. “Now that we’ve had successful participation in both Northern and Southern Nevada, we’ll continue to develop the project to see how we can include veterans in other areas of the state,” said Cage.

Event Location: Sundance Books and Music, 121 California Ave, Reno
Date: Friday, Nov. 11
Time: 7 p.m. – limited seating
