The Children’s Cabinet encourages Nevadans to celebrate “Children’s Day”

Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Nevada’s inaugural Children’s Day will be observed on Monday, Sept. 26. As part of the day, The Children’s Cabinet is encouraging adults to celebrate by spending time with the children in their lives doing something special together. Also as part of the celebration, individuals may stop by one of The Children’s Cabinet offices throughout the week and receive a free book for a child.

A statewide Children’s Day became a reality during a Nevada Senate session on April 18, 2011 in which a Proclamation was presented by Senator Shirley Breeden and adopted by the State Senate. The Proclamation highlights the importance of Nevada’s children to the future of the state and emphasizes that their needs must be given “the highest priority.”

“There is now a day set aside every year to celebrate Nevada’s children and to encourage all of the citizens of Nevada to become involved and work together to help children reach their potential by recognizing and encouraging their individual talents and accomplishments,” said Jamie Burnett, program director at The Children’s Cabinet. “The Children’s Cabinet Philosophy encompasses the belief that each child has the right to lead a healthy, safe existence which will promote their capacity and opportunity to become responsible, productive adult citizens.  We believe in promoting and encouraging an environment within families, schools, and neighborhoods that values the unique characteristics of each individual.  Research shows the link between supporting children’s social and emotional growth and development and their success in school and in life.”

The Children’s Cabinet encourages parents to visit the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agency’s (NACCRRA) website at http://www.naccrra.org/for_parents/ for ideas of things they can do with your child on this special day.
