GOVERNOR’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE

sandovallogo-300x91-2973416-7346315CARSON CITY – September has been designated as National Preparedness Month by President Obama and today, Governor Brian Sandoval declared September Preparedness Month in Nevada.

“Today, I signed a proclamation to call upon all Nevadans to prepare for emergencies and to engage in volunteering and shape a culture of service and citizenship,” Sandoval said. “This year is also the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11. Americans came together on that day and so I believe we can now come together again to prepare.”

The proclamation highlights the work of first responders and asks individuals and families to get an emergency supply kit and make a family emergency plan. The proclamation also highlights the work of Nevada volunteers in strengthening Nevada through AmeriCorps and volunteerism.

“Volunteers remain the backbone of both emergency preparedness and service above self,” Sandoval added. “In honor of the upcoming 10th anniversary of September 11th, I call on Nevadans to consider making a commitment to volunteer in our communities.”
