Public Relations Society of America hosts visiting University professor Caesar Andrews for ethics month

RENO, Nev. – The Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is hosting this month distinguished journalist and educator Caesar Andrews for its September 28 luncheon. Andrews will discuss media ethics in an increasingly digital world as part of PRSA’s ethics month.

The proliferation and popularity of social media, the Internet and email have created many new ethical dilemmas that can have significant ramifications on careers, credibility and effectiveness. Caesar Andrews is teaching courses in ethics and advanced reporting this fall at the Reynolds School of Journalism, University of Nevada, Reno. He is the Leonard Family Distinguished Visiting Professor in Ethics.

Andrews previously served as a guest journalism professor at UNR in 2010, and in similar visiting positions at Arizona State University in spring 2011, and Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va., in fall 2009.

He was a senior editor with the Gannett Co. for nearly 30 years in Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Washington, D.C., and Michigan, where he completed his Gannett Co. career in 2008 as executive editor of the Detroit Free Press. He was elected president of the Associated Press Managing Editors in 2002 and served as an officer of the American Society of News Editors until 2008. He is currently on the boards of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the Student Press Law Center.

Andrews earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Grambling State University, Grambling, La. He was inducted into Grambling’s Hall of Fame in 2009.
