University of Phoenix helps fill Boys & Girls Club members’ backpacks for upcoming school year

Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

WHAT: University of Phoenix Northern Nevada Campus has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to donate 100 backpacks filled with schools supplies to underserved children (grades K-12) who utilize the new Boys & Girls Club facility in Lemmon Valley.

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows in collaboration with Washoe County Parks and Recreation remodeled the community center to bring year-round before-and after-school programming to Lemmon Valley, in addition to the summer camp program it has run for several years. The Joe Mitchell Community Center is located next door to Lemmon Valley Elementary School.

WHY: University of Phoenix recognizes the financial challenges teachers face when preparing their classrooms. Often educators spend thousands of dollars per year of their own money to provide school supplies for students whose families cannot afford to purchase supplies.

In addition, University of Phoenix has developed a strong partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows, supporting its mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
