Saint Mary’s Medical Group (SMMG) announces Steven C. Herrmann, M.D., Ph.D. has joined the multi-specialty physician practice as cardiology medical director. Dr. Herrmann and interventional cardiologist Dr. James Lee are the first specialists to join the 14 primary-care physicians already part of SMMG. Dr. Herrmann will lead new initiatives designed to further improve patient outcomes based on evidence-based medical protocols.
Dr. Herrmann brings a specific clinical interest of helping patients with non-surgical interventions to lower cholesterol, manage blood pressure and improve heart-related health habits, including cardiac rehabilitation and other wellness-based programs. He has received a number of awards from fellow clinicians and patients for clinical excellence, including multiple listings in the Consumer Research Council’s Best Cardiologists in the USA, Best Doctors in America, and was elected to the International Society of Cardiology as one of the leading cardiologists in the world. Prior to joining SMMG, Dr. Herrmann worked for the Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. as director of cardiac care and Bradford Regional Medical Center in Bradford, Pa.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Herrmann is a researcher and noted teacher. He has served as the site principal investigator of the WARCEF trial at Saint Louis University, and is in Who’s Who for medical school educators in the United States. Dr. Herrmann has multiple publications and text book chapters in areas such as cardiac physiology, echocardiography, and cardiac hemodynamics. He remains on the faculty at Saint Louis University School of Medicine as an adjunct assistant professor of Physiology and Pharmacology.
A graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Herrmann holds a doctorate in cardiac physiology and biophysics from the University of Washington and is a fellow with the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography.
