Sandoval names Rick Trachok to Board of Regents

sandovallogo-300x91-5132234-7701092CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval today announced he has appointed Rick Trachok to the Nevada Board of Regents. Trachok will fill the seat vacated by William Cobb.

“Rick’s experience as a lawyer in private practice, as a member of a school board of trustees and as an adjunct professor of law will provide him a well-reasoned foundation from which to make decisions affecting higher education in our state,” Sandoval said. “Rick will bring an understanding of the critical intersections between higher education, economic development and our K-12 school reforms. Rick is a proud graduate of UNR, and his family has a legacy of service to that institution and higher education. I am pleased that he has agreed to serve his state in this manner.”

Trachok, currently partner in the Reno office of Jones Vargas, is chairman of the firm’s marketing committee and a member of its governmental affairs committee. He represents companies like Gauselmann AG, Lottomatica S.p.A and Spielo ULC.

Prior to his current position, Trachok was partner in the firm Bruce & Trachok, focusing primarily on utility regulatory matters, international gaming regulatory issues and gaming and regulatory law. He has also been a managing partner in Bible, Hoy & Trachok. He also served as Washoe County Deputy District Attorney.

Trachok is also an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law in San Francisco California, where he teaches the law of international trade. He also taught construction law at the University of Nevada for 15 years.

He served as president of the Sage Ridge School Board of Trustees for three years and was on the board for a total of 10 years. During his term as president, the board turned the $500,000 per year operating deficit into an annual surplus. Additionally, the board raised over $1 million to expand the high school building in 2006.

A graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and California Western School of Law, Trachok has a degree from Cambridge University, Sidney Sussex College.
