ASUN NEWS RELEASE

asunlogo-1-300x77-8611605-3315723On Aug. 31 at 6 p.m., candidates vying for the state’s 2nd Congressional District seat, previously held by Republican Dean Heller, will meet with students, faculty and community members about the state’s current issues, with moderator Sam Shad of the political television news program Nevada Newsmakers.

“It is our hope that bringing these candidates to campus will help to further involve the campus community in our state’s political system,” said Michael Stannard, director of ASUN’s Department of Legislative Affairs. “I hope the candidates who attend will be able to create a lively discussion with students, professors and the public.”

This free, student-hosted event will be held in the Joe Crowley Student Union ballrooms from 6 to 9 p.m. and is open to students, faculty and the community. Beginning at 6:15 p.m., each candidate will be given an opportunity to deliver a five-minute opening statement before questions begin at 6:30 p.m. As the moderator, Shad will decide which questions will be delivered to the candidates.

Kate Marshall, Tim Fasano and Helmuth Lehmann have confirmed their attendance for the town hall. Currently, Mark Amodei has not accepted ASUN’s invitation.

Early voting for the special election begins on Aug. 27. From Sept. 6 through 9, the University’s Joe Crowley Student Union will be an early-voting location.
