UNITED STATES MARSHAL SERVICE NEWS RELEASE

The United States Marshals Service (USMS) announces the arrest of James Vincent Banks, a fugitive wanted by Nevada Parole and Probation for Sex Offender Violation of Lifetime Supervision and Sex Offender Failure to Register.

The investigation to locate Banks led Deputy U.S. Marshals to Sparks where he was suspected of hiding out.  Banks was apprehended last Thursday afternoon by the USMS Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST) task force and officers from the Nevada Parole and Probation Department after a foot pursuit that took place in Sparks near Victorian Avenue and McCarran Boulevard. Banks, 30, was booked into the Washoe County Jail with a bail amount of $130,000 for charges ranging from Obstructing and Resisting, Violation of Lifetime Supervision (25 counts), and Ex-Felon in Possession of a firearm.

Christopher Hoye, the U.S. Marshal for the District of Nevada, stated, “This arrest highlights how cooperation between federal and local law enforcement is essential to finding fugitives fleeing the justice system.”

The Nevada FIST is a permanent task force which brings together the resources and expertise of state, local and federal agencies in a coordinated effort to arrest dangerous fugitives and pursue sexual offenders anywhere they are located.  In essence, Nevada FIST is a law enforcement “force multiplier.”  Nevada FIST, led by the U.S. Marshals Service, is a partnership comprised of investigators from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Nevada Department of Public Safety (Parole and Probation), the Sparks Police Department, and the Reno Police Department.

America’s Oldest Federal Law Enforcement Agency

Annually, U.S. Marshals arrest more than 50 percent of all federal fugitives and serve more federal warrants than all other federal agencies combined.  For more information, go to www.usmarshals.gov
