SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
Blue Ambassador, Dave Cornthwaite, is currently descending the Mississippi River from source to sea by Stand Up Paddleboard, a world record 2500+ mile journey.
The paddleboard which Cornthwaite is using is built by Reno, Nev. based Lakeshore Paddleboard Company.
“We are proud to support Dave on this epic adventure,” says Mike Tessier, co-owner of Lakeshore Paddleboard Company. “Dave is using our River Rover board which is specifically designed for flat-water touring. It is a great expedition, kind of like back in the days of Lewis and Clark.”
Cornthwaite’s jouney, the Mississippi Expedition, began on June 20th, and will take three months, winding through the Upper Lakes and through several major cities, including St Louis, Memphis and New Orleans.
The Expedition aims to provide a platform for flat-water Stand Up Paddleboarding as a healthy, enjoyable sport, linking communities along the waterway, encouraging an appreciation of the Mississippi River through sport and travel as well as highlighting the issues faced by the river.
Cornthwaite is also using the expedition to raise money for the AV Foundation and CoppaFeel! The AV Foundation works in East African schools and communities developing water system infrastructure to ensure the availability of electricity and safe, potable water for all. CoppaFeel! which raises awareness of breast cancer.
