SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

In preparation for its opening in September, the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum recently hired a marketing and public relations (PR) manager. Patrick Turner, who will now handle marketing and PR for the organization, comes with 15 years of experience in marketing and advertising. Additionally, Katie Green was hired as office manager in March and Mikaela Medieros joined as marketing/development intern in May. The Discovery, which is scheduled to open September 10, 2011, will hire an additional 27 employees by end of summer.

“Not only will The Discovery provide children with a unique hands-on learning experience but it will also have a positive impact on our economy,” said David Tesseo, executive director for the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum. “We are thrilled to welcome aboard such incredible talent and excited to continue our search to employ other great people from all over the community.”

A graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, Turner began working on The Discovery more than six years ago during the capital campaign that has raised $20.3 million to date for museum construction and exhibit costs. His work as an art director helped develop the campaign that gave the museum its ‘face’. In his new role as marketing manager for the museum, Turner is responsible for finding new and innovative ways to educate the community about The Discovery and all of the resources it has to offer northern Nevada’s youth.

As office manager, Katie Green is responsible for day-to-day customer sales and office relations including handling membership sales and renewals. Her six years of experience in real estate and her passion for communication has contributed to her success with museum membership sales.

Marketing and development intern, Mikaela Medieros, is involved with several different aspects of the museum. She does everything from marketing research to coordinating community events. One of her main responsibilities is to attend local events to provide information about The Discovery to parents and guide hands-on activities for kids.

The construction and development of The Discovery has been no simple feat and requires dedicated individuals who are passionate about hands-on learning and education. The museum is looking to hire positions including an operations and visitor services director, educator, customer service positions, store manager, exhibit developer, learning experience facilitator and IT support specialist.

Additionally, museum memberships give everyone the ability to transform the community and are available for families and grandparents and can also be purchased as gifts for families in need.
