Tee it up with Reno-Tahoe Open PGA TOUR professionals 27 stories up in support of the Autism Coalition of Nevada

Continuing its mission to raise money for local charities, the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation teams up with the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) and the Autism Coalition of Nevada (ACON) to raise money in support of finding a cure for autism at the second annual “Big Swing for Autism” Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 8:30-11:30 a.m.  Join PGA TOUR players competing in the 2011 Reno-Tahoe Open 27 stories up on the rooftop of the GSR to raise money for a good cause while winning prizes for the longest drive and other feats. For more information on the “Big Swing for Autism” or to pre-register for the event, visit www.aconv.org or call 775-329-2268.

Offering some of the best views of the cities of Reno and Sparks, the “Big Swing for Autism” allows participants to rub elbows with professional golfers and show off long-game skills while driving golf balls from the rooftop of the GSR, over the pool and into the Sierra Bay Aqua Driving Range.  To win one of the many prizes, including coveted Clubhouse Season Passes to the 13th annual Reno-Tahoe Open, Aug. 1-7, participants pair the longest of three drives with that of one of the pros’ drives whose name has been drawn out of hat at the start of the event.  The individual with the longest paired drive wins a one-night stay in a GSR luxury suite and dinner for two at the famous Charlie Palmer Steak inside the resort.  The group with the longest, combined, four drives wins dinner for eight at Charlie Palmer Steak. Second and third place prizes are also offered for both individual and group qualifiers.

Individuals can take part in Big Swing for Autism by preregistering for $50 before July 29, or arrive the day of the event and sign up for $75 with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the ACON. Groups of four seeking to get into the swing of things can register for $500, which includes the opportunity to place a company banner on the rooftop for media and spectators to see.

“We are really excited and just so grateful to the GSR and Reno-Tahoe Open for helping us host the second annual ‘Big Swing for Autism,’” said Michelle Scott-Lewing, executive director for the ACON. “Last year we raised over $6,000 for autism and we hope this fun event will be even more successful this year thanks to support from the community and our own exciting team of participants!  Autism affects 1 in every 110 children – 1 in 70 boys – so events like this are critical in bringing awareness to the disorder and allowing ACON to reach out to the families.”

The Reno-Tahoe Open’s participation in the “Big Swing for Autism” is part of the PGA TOUR’s charitable initiative Together, Anything’s Possible. The initiative is aimed at making a social investment by helping others in the communities that host PGA TOUR events through programs involving players, charities, sponsors, partners, volunteers and fans. Because a majority of funds raised during these charitable programs are channeled back into the communities that play host to the PGA TOUR, there are nearly 3,000 charities worldwide that are touched by the TOUR’s goal of giving back.
