After a nationwide media blitz in December 2009 — and again early this year — Reno was thrust into the spotlight as having one of the worst water quality ratings in the country.
But the truth is that the Truckee Meadows has some of the cleanest drinking water in the nation. This program, a panel discussion, will cover how Northern Nevada public relations professionals mobilized to counteract misleading news reporting and used social media to correct misinformation about Reno water quality.
You will hear from Kim Mazeres, director of customer relations at the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, and Frankie Vigil, public relations manager at goodStanding, who were the leads on the case. Also on this crisis communications panel will be Bob Conrad, PhD, APR, public information officer for the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, who helped to coordinate the state response with TMWA and the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
They will share their strategy and explain how social media played a critical role in this case.
