New addition brings further experience, knowledge to the college’s administration

TMCC recently welcomed a new vice president of academic affairs and student services. John Tuthill, Ph.D., who stepped into his role with TMCC earlier this month, will continue the college’s commitment to providing excellent academic and student support programs. Prior to accepting the position at TMCC, Dr. Tuthill served as chief academic officer for three separate community colleges.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Tuthill to TMCC and think he will make a great addition to our already incredible staff,” said Dr. Maria Sheehan, President of TMCC. “His extensive experience with community colleges and his passion for solving problems and helping people made him the ideal candidate for this position and a perfect fit for TMCC.”

With more than two decades of academic experience, Dr. Tuthill worked as chief academic officer for the College of the Marshall Islands, in the tropical Pacific; Ilisagvik College, in Arctic Alaska; and Northwest Arkansas Community College. Before his role in administration, Dr. Tuthill taught history full-time for 17 years, earning tenure at the University of Guam.

His steady career history stems from a remarkable diverse educational background including a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese studies from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts degree in history from Columbia University and a doctorate in history from the University of California, Berkeley.

As the vice president of academic affairs and student services, Dr. Tuthill will be responsible for the overall design, organization, delivery, supervision, evaluation and fiscal management of a comprehensive instructional and student services program. He will also serve as a member of TMCC President, Dr. Maria Sheehan’s executive management team.
