Northeastern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council to meet June 15

blm_logo-300x261-7771981-9562154Elko, Nev.–The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Northeastern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will hold a field meeting on Wednesday, June 15 to tour public lands in the Spruce Mountain area.  Members of the public and media are cordially invited to attend.  There will be an opportunity for the public to make comments to the RAC during the tour.

The gathering place to join the field tour will be at the 4-Way Casino, Café and Lounge, 1440 6th St., in Wells, Nev., at 8:30 a.m.  The tour participants will depart Wells at 9 a.m. and will return to Wells by 5 p.m.  Non-RAC members will need to provide their own transportation and refreshments.

Agenda items for discussion include: Wild Horse & Burro Program and proposed eco-sanctuaries, hazardous fuels management and land-use plan amendments.

The public may present general written and/or oral comments to the RAC at the Spruce Mountain Kiosk at 10 a.m.  The Spruce Mountain Kiosk is off Highway 93, approximately 35 miles south of Wells and is accessible by two-wheel drive vehicles.  An agenda is posted at:  http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/res/resource_advisory/northeastern_great.html.  This RAC meeting is being shortened by one day from previously published meeting dates in an effort to reduce travel costs and member inconvenience.

In accordance with the Federal Land Policy and Management Act and the Federal Advisory Committee Act of 1972 (FACA), the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management formed 24 RACs in the western States to provide advice on the management of public lands and resources. These citizen-based groups provide an opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds and interests to have a voice in the management of the public lands, and to help improve their health and productivity.  RAC recommendations address all public land issues, including: land use planning, recreation, noxious weeds, and wild horse and burro herd management areas.
