SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

At its regular meeting, the Board of Washoe County Commissioners voted unanimously to award $1,113,691 in construction contracts to build pedestrian and bike paths in Lemmon Valley and Incline Village. The new and renewed paths, supported federal and state grant funds, will improve community safety and connectivity while leveraging local dollars to create and retain construction jobs in our community.

The new pathways in Lemmon Valley are a result of a long term collaborative effort between the Nevada Department of Transportation and Washoe County to collaboratively complete design, contract awards and identify sources for safe pathways in the North Valleys. The project includes 6,000 linear feet of new pathways along the east side of Lemmon Drive between Bernoulli Street to Patrician Drive. The 2008 stewardship agreement between the agencies provided $871,175 from federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funds and a 5% in-kind match from Washoe County of $45,851. The total project cost is $917,026. The contract was awarded to A&K Earth Movers, who is based out of Fallon, and is estimated to support the creation or retention of 8 jobs.

Maintenance of existing paths in Incline Village to improve safe walking and biking options includes 3,200 linear feet on Village Blvd. from State Route 28 to College Boulevard and 500 linear feet along Southwood Blvd. beginning at Mays Blvd. Construction is provided by $312,000 in Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Air Quality Mitigation Grant Funds. The bid was awarded to Herback General Engineering LLC, who is located in Minden, in the amount of $271,443.00.
