Nurses throughout northern Nevada gathered this month to celebrate their nominations for Nurse of Achievement. Renown Health nurses were honored with nine awards. Seven of these winners took home honors from the 13 award categories and facility winners were named from Renown Regional Medical Center and Renown South Meadows Medical Center and Post Acute Services.

Recognizing the need to shine a spotlight on a profession founded more than 150 years ago by nurse Florence Nightingale, the Northern Nevada Nurses of Achievement Committee was formed in 1999. The goal of this committee of dedicated nurses was to honor colleagues, increase awareness of nursing as a profession and to promote the advancement of nursing education through scholarships.

“These nurses are a role model for their peers, and their work sets an example for the profession of nursing,” said Jeff Stout, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing officer at Renown Regional Medical Center. “We thank all of the nominees along with the winners for living our purpose and showing unwavering commitment to the community through their dedication to patient care.”

These Renown Health nurses were awarded in the following categories:

  • Megan Pratt, RN, APN, Advocacy
  • Dawn Dollarhide, RN, Critical Care
  • Bridget Tuma, RN, Medical/Surgical/Maternal Child
  • Teena Thomas, BSN, RN, PCCN, Nursing Education
  • Elizabeth Cogan, RN, Nursing Innovation
  • Bobbi Gillis, BSN, RN, CBCN, Office/Outpatient
  • Lisa Dunkelberg, BSN, RN, Rural, Carson Valley Medical Center (a joint partnership of Barton HealthCare System of South Lake Tahoe and Renown Health)
  • Christina Alsop , BSN, RN, Facility Winner, Renown Regional
  • Lisa Abbott, RN, BS, Facility Winner Post Acute Services, Renown Skilled Nursing

“Renown Health is honored to have so many nominations and recognized winners at our organization,” said Gail Green, MSN, RN, chief nursing officer for Renown South Meadows and Post Acute Services. “We applaud the extraordinary efforts made every day by this group of individuals who have dedicated their lives to making a genuine difference in our community.”
