The Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) will host a World Affairs Council Speaker Series 2010-2011 on the topic of the Church’s Challenges and Responses to AIDS in Southern Africa. Frank Nubuasah, a Catholic Bishop of the Vicariate of Francistown, Botswana is a world renowned speaker on issues dealing with AIDS, orphans, and refugees and he is also the Chairman of the Southern African Bishop’s Committee on Refugees and Human Development. The speaker’s native Botswana has one of the highest rates of AIDS in the world with nearly 25% of the population affected by the virus and this particular issue affects not only his country but also the Southern African region as well as the rest of the world. He will discuss issues pertaining to AIDS dilemma, poverty, orphans, and refugees as well as how these issues are being tackled by Church.
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness to the Northern Nevada community about the obstacles Southern Africa and the Catholic Church face in response to AIDS and poverty and how these issues are being dealt with. The Northern Nevada International Center appreciates the efforts of the media to spread the word and encourage the general public to attend this talk.
The presentation will be on June 15, 2011 with a Social Hour from 6:00-7:00 PM and the presentation starts at 7:00 PM. NNIC Members and teachers and students with ID will have free admission. The general public pays $20 for the reception and speaker’s presentation and they can also opt for only $10 if they just want to attend the presentation.
The event will be held at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 780 Del Monte Lane, Reno NV 89511. Parking will be available and free to the public.
