Nevada Women’s Fund announces real estate expert as keynote for 2011 Salute to Women of Achievement event

RENO, Nev. – The Nevada Women’s Fund (NWF) announces that renowned real estate mogul, reality TV star and author Barbara Corcoran is the keynote speaker for the 2011 Salute to Women of Achievement event.

Corcoran’s credentials include straight D’s in high school and college and 20 jobs by the time she turned 23.  It was her next job, when she took a $1,000 loan to start The Corcoran Group, which would make her one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country. She parlayed that loan into a $5 billion real estate business, which she sold in 2001 for $70 million.

As the real estate contributor to NBC’s “TODAY” show, Corcoran comments weekly on trends in the real estate market. She is also an investor/shark on ABC’s reality hit “Shark Tank.” In the first season, the businesswoman bought eight young businesses that she is shepherding to success.

The author of “Shark Tales,” Corcoran details her inspiring true story through humor and her best advice for anyone starting a business.  She has also written “Nextville” and “Amazing Places to Live the Rest of Your Life.”

The Salute to Women of Achievement, scheduled for June 13, 2011, is the NWF’s signature event that honors women of the region nominated for recognition of their professional, personal and community achievements. Honorees participate in a day of professional development and activities, and a recognition luncheon honoring them.
