CARSON CITY – Pedestrian and bicycle transportation will be among the topics at the 2011 Northern Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Conference, scheduled for May 24 in Reno.

Developed to augment statewide bicycle and pedestrian resources, the conference will provide the latest information on bike/pedestrian facility planning and design, safety, tourism and education initiatives, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, as well as Safe Routes to School and Reno/Sparks Bike and Pedestrian Plan information.

“In its tenth year, this conference is truly the state’s foremost event for bike and walking enthusiasts, advocates, engineers, administrators, educators and consultants,” Nevada Department of Transportation Bicycle/Pedestrian Program Manager Bill Story explained. “Bicycling and walking provide many benefits in regards to health, congestion and air quality; not to mention finding a parking spot. And this conference provides resources and information to further those benefits in Nevada.”

The conference will be held at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, with information and registration available by calling (775) 888-7727 or at www.bicyclenevada.com. Event registration is $125 and open to the general public. Some scholarships are available to cover registration. The conference is presented by the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Nevada Bicycle Advisory Board. A similar conference will be held in southern Nevada in October 2011.
