Assessor’s office reminds taxpayers of upcoming deadlines

Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

The Washoe County Assessor’s Office has begun its mandated mailing of various notices to taxpayers including exemption and partial abatement forms.

If a taxpayer wants to use their exemption (e.g., blind, surviving spouse, veterans and disabled veterans exemptions) on their real property, they must return the selection card by June 15. Otherwise, they can use the exemption on their governmental services tax at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, at any time during the upcoming year. To use the exemption at the DMV, you must obtain the form from the Washoe County Assessor’s office prior to registering your vehicle.

Partial Abatement “Tax Cap” forms were sent to owners of rental property and parcels with a change in ownership or mailing address. These must be returned by June 15. Property owners may also file their forms online quickly and easily by visiting the Washoe County Assessor’s website.

Business Personal Property declarations are scheduled to be mailed on or about June 15 and must be returned by July 31. Each year, businesses are required to report all personal property owned, rented, leased or controlled as of July 1. If a business fails to file the declaration, the assessor’s office will make an estimated value of the property and the treasurer will send a bill based on that estimate.

For more information on exemptions/partial abatement forms, call 775-328-2277 and on business personal roperty, call 775-328-2213.
