Sandoval announces anticipated date for Congressional special election

sandovallogo-300x91-3949095-8060204CARSON CITY–Gov. Brian Sandoval today announced his intent to call a special election for Congressional District 2 on September 13, 2011.

“In anticipation of Congressman Dean Heller’s resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives to serve in the United States Senate, I am preparing to call for a special election,” Sandoval said. “With an election in early September, Nevada will have a full voice as the House begins its work this fall.”

According to Nevada law, “the election must be conducted: (a) As soon as practicable after the issuance of the proclamation; (b) On a Tuesday; and (c) Not more than 180 days after the issuance of the proclamation.”

The Secretary of State has the authority to adopt regulations necessary for conducting a special election.
