Firefighters face dangerous conditions during early morning fire

Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Early this Thursday at 12:12 a.m., Reno firefighters responded to a fire in a travel trailer at 531 Aloha Way in Sun Valley.

“Access to the trailer was difficult since there were several cars and outbuildings blocking access to it,” advised Battalion Chief Sandy Munns. “Additionally, there were some hazardous materials which made the fire much more difficult to extinguish.”

The fire caused power lines to arc overhead while firefighters were attacking the fire. One power line burned through, falling to the ground. The intense fire caused damage to several vehicles parked nearby but no damage occurred to the main residence or to any outbuildings. No injuries were reported.

The Reno Fire Department and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

The Reno Fire Department responded to the fire with three structure engines, one safety officer, and one battalion chief. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office conducted traffic and scene control in addition to assisting with the investigation. NV Energy was also on scene helping fire crews by shutting off gas and electric services.
