image001-4454752-9944667Mel Bartholomew, bestselling author of “All New Square Foot Gardening,” will conduct three seminars on Sat., April 2, and two workshops on Sun., April 3, at Rail City Garden Center in Sparks.

Seminar and workshop participants will learn how to become successful gardeners the simple and painless way.

The All New Square Foot Gardening will revolutionize the way you think about gardening. There’s no back-breaking thinning, weeding or hoeing.

All New Square Foot Gardening
The wildly popular “Square Foot Gardening” introduced the concept of gardens in easily manageable 6-inch-deep aboveground boxes close to homes. The boxes are filled with a special growing mix, utilize no fertilizers, produce no weeds and result in maximum yields.

In his first books, Bartholomew showed the world how to grow more in less space. His concepts have been put into practice in homes and schoolyards across the nation. Bartholomew created the gardening system that is easy to understand, easy to do and yields great results. More than 2 million copies of his books have been sold.

Seminars Saturday, April 2

· Session 1, 10 a.m.
· Session 2, 1 p.m.
· Session 3, 3 p.m.

Each Saturday session will provide an introduction to All New Square Foot Gardening and why it was invented. The advantages provided by Square Foot Gardening, its simplicity and new improvements will be detailed. Participants will learn why schools around the world and family gardening programs prefer the Square Foot Gardening methods.

Workshops Sunday, April 3
The Sunday workshops are at:
· 10 a.m.
· 1 p.m.

The Sunday workshops will address how to cut your food bill in half, detail the simple easy steps you take to get an All New Square Foot Garden started and describe how to plant, space and harvest three crops each year.

Costs and Benefiting Charity

Cost is $45 per person for the seminar or $75 for both the seminar and a workshop. Seminar participation is required for workshop attendance.

All proceeds from this event will benefit ALS of Nevada, an independent nonprofit organization serving ALS patients and their families throughout the Silver State. ALS is a form of motor neuron disease and is often called Lou Gehrig’s Disease, after the New York Yankees baseball icon who was diagnosed with it in 1939. ALS is progressive and always fatal. Gehrig died two years after his diagnosis.

Rail City Garden Center is a founding sponsor of the Water & Rails Pond & Garden Tour each summer, which also benefits ALS. For more information on the Water & Rails Pond & Garden Tour visit www.waterandrails.org.

The instructor
An engineer by profession, Bartholomew was a weekend gardener. Using his engineering expertise, he developed a system that yields 100 percent of the harvest in 20 percent of the space using less water than traditional gardening. His method gained popularity, and ultimately he converted millions of gardeners world-wide to his square foot method.
