SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

The Truckee Meadows Community Forestry Coalition (TMCFC) has recently released its Recommended List of Trees, available as a free download at www.commnityforestry.org.

The tree list, which was developed by the Coalition’s team of certified arborists, details the attributes, benefits and specific needs of more than 70 different species of tree suitable for the high desert climate of the Truckee Meadows. The Community Forestry Coalition is a conservation program created by Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) to help educate private tree owners in proper tree care practices including efficient watering. The new tree list helps homeowners select the right tree for the right place, one of the most important planning steps to ensure the good health and long life of their investments.

“Our goal at the Coalition is to help members of our community understand how to better care for their own trees,” Lora Rose Richards, TMWA Administrator of Conservation and Community Outreach, said. “That starts with choosing the best tree for your home, yard and climate.”

For more free downloads, or information about tree care in the Truckee Meadows or the Coalition, please visit www.comunityforestry.org. The website includes an Ask An Arborist forum where residents can submit photos and questions about their trees and receive advice from certified tree care experts.

For a comprehensive look at landscape design, planning and planting, please visit Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s Water-Efficient Landscape Guide at www.tmwalandscapeguide.com.

The Mission of the Truckee Meadows Community Forestry Coalition is to enhance the protection and preservation of the public and private community forest through education, research, conservation and collaborative policy development.
