Company Expects to Bring More Than 100 Jobs to Sierra Region
CARSON CITY, Nev.—GSI Commerce, a leading provider of e-commerce and interactive marketing services, is expanding to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRIC) with plans to invest more than $6 million in equipment and improvements. GSI expects to bring more than 100 new jobs to the Sierra Region in its first year, boosting its employee base during its peak seasonal distribution needs to more than 300. Led by the Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA), the GSI distribution facility is scheduled to open by August 2011.
“The Nevada location will allow us to better facilitate distribution of our clients’ products and improve our clients’ customer experience through speed of delivery and better proximity to the end consumer,” stated Scott Rosenberg, senior vice president of enterprise finance for GSI. “GSI’s capabilities extend beyond the U.S., with dedicated international teams that help our clients launch and operate e-commerce businesses serving online shoppers in North America, Europe and—in the near future— Asia. With the assistance of NNDA and the incentives offered by the state, we are able to move forward quickly in launching the start of our regional fulfillment strategy with a presence in Nevada.”
GSI offers end-to-end, full-service e-commerce solutions to its clients, which include many of the world’s top retail brands. By engaging GSI as a partner for the products and services clients need, the clients get the most out of their online channel. With GSI’s greater speed and operating capabilities, the clients’ e-commerce team has the freedom to focus management energies on developing essential strategies for growing their online business and providing a superior, brand-centric experience for their customers.
Rob Hooper, NNDA executive director, said, “Ken Pierson, deputy director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, initiated the opportunity and provided us with the foundation necessary to successfully support GSI’s evaluation of Storey County as its western operations location. In total, this success for Nevada is a testament of how seamless the economic development community programs are between the Commission, the County and the open source application of NNDA. It is a great team effort that continues as this fast-growing Internet company joins our family of successful Nevada businesses.”
The announcement of this decision by GSI to call Nevada its new home brought a smile to the face of Lt. Governor Krolicki. “I am very pleased,” said Krolicki. “Once again, after corporate due diligence, the fact that Nevada is the best state in the west for business has been proven. We welcome GSI to Nevada and plan to continue our support of its success.”
