SPARKS — The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is developing applications for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Cooperative Funds for the upcoming grant cycle. We are developing two preliminary applications to the Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division in Sacramento. The grant applications will be posted on the OHMVR website on Monday, March 7, 2011. To review the grant applications submitted, click on this link or paste it into your browser: http://www.ohv.parks.ca.gov.

“These grant opportunities are absolutely vital to enhancing so many facets of our overall OHV program,” said Jeanne Higgins, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Supervisor. “The grants fund everything from planning to conservation of trails, trailheads, and areas, and OHV programs for vehicle safety or education,” explained Higgins. “I encourage you to contact our office to provide us with your feedback on our submittals,” said Higgins.

The Law Enforcement Grant includes a strong emphasis on law enforcement and will fund Law Enforcement Officers and Forest Protection Officers; the Ground Operations Grant will focus on operating and maintaining OHV and snowmobile areas across the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts.

The 30-day public review and comment period for the Grants and Cooperative Agreement Program begins March 8, 2011, and ends April 4, 2011. This period provides an opportunity for the public to review the preliminary applications submitted to the OHMVR Division for consideration during the current grant cycle.

The public may provide comments to both the applicant and the OHMVR Division by emailing David Reis at [email protected] and copying (“cc”) the OHVMR Division at [email protected]. Written comments, suggestions, or letters of support for the applications may be sent to David Reis, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest,1200 Franklin Way, Sparks, Nevada, 89431.
