Date:

blm_logo-300x261-4378248-4674956CARSON CITY — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office, has prepared the Winters Ranch Management Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA).  The EA analyzes the potential effects to the human environment associated with the Plan, which would set management guidance for approximately 991 acres of BLM managed lands in Washoe County, Nevada.  Winters Ranch is adjacent to U.S. Highway 395 in the northern end of Washoe Valley.

The Plan sets management objectives and actions for seven broad categories including: stream habitats, wetlands, terrestrial habitats, visual resources, recreation, environmental education and interpretation, health, safety and visitor access.  In addition, the EA analyzes the potential effects associated with an approximately 7,700 feet long fuel/fire break along the northern boundary of the Winters Ranch property.

The EA and associated documents are available for public review and comment on-line at: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/carson_city_field/blm_information/nepa/winters_ranch_plan.html

Comments on the Winters Ranch Management Plan and Environmental Assessment (DOI-BLM-NV-C020-2009-0001-EA) will be accepted until April 20, 2011.  Interested individuals can send written comments to the Sierra Front Field Office, 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, NV  89701, attn: Jim Schroeder, or e-mail comments to [email protected].  Comments can also be faxed to 775-885-6147.  Questions specific to the fuel break can be addressed to Keith Barker, Fire Ecologist, 775-885-6120.
