Forest Service names supervisor, deputy for Lake Tahoe Basin

usfs-logo-282x300-1602592-2884229SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF.— The U.S. Forest Service Region 5 has announced that Nancy Gibson has been selected as the Forest Supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Gibson has been the Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Six Rivers National Forest for nearly three years. Previously, she served as the Administrative Officer on the Klamath National Forest. She also served as Acting Forest Supervisor on the Mendocino National Forest in 2009. Gibson holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Southern Oregon University.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to work with folks throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin,” said Gibson. “Lake Tahoe is a captivating place that brings together so many varied interests and ideas. I’m looking forward to working closely with partners, cooperators and community members bringing strength and support to our stewardship of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.”

Jeff Marsolais has been selected for the position of Deputy Forest Supervisor. Marsolais has been on a detail as Acting Forest Supervisor on the LTBMU since November 2010. He will be leaving his position as the Recreation and Lands Officer on the Inyo National Forest, which he has held since 2007. Marsolais holds a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources and Recreation Planning and a master’s degree in Natural Resources from Humboldt State University.

“Since arriving, I have been impressed by the collaborative spirit shown by the Forest Service staff and our partners in the Lake Tahoe Basin,” said Marsolais.  “I look forward to permanently joining the team here as Deputy Forest Supervisor and continuing the critical work underway to protect this special place.”

Reporting dates for both Gibson and Marsolais are still pending. Marsolais will continue to serve as Acting Forest Supervisor until Gibson arrives.
