Northern Nevada Medical Center announces the opening of its Inpatient RehabCenter. Located on the sixth floor of the hospital at 2375 E. Prater Way, the new 8-bed unit offers physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy to patients in need of rehabilitation in an inpatient, hospital setting.

The NNMC Inpatient RehabCenter provides comprehensive therapy for patients who have experienced major injuries, neurological trauma or extensive surgery. The team of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists are equipped to care for a number of conditions including:

  • Stroke
  • Brain injury
  • Amputation
  • Major multiple trauma
  • Spinal cord and back injuries
  • Neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease or muscular dystrophy

The new facility features all private rooms with a gym and a dining room overlooking the city. The clinical staff is lead by Lita McCaw, OTR/L., Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation and Therapy Services, who has 23 years in occupational therapy.

“Our entire team designs a plan of care for each individual patient, and we meet frequently to discuss their progress and goals,” said McCaw, “Patient families are also encouraged to participate in the process by attending therapy sessions. Our goal is to get patients to the point where they can return home at the highest level of independence possible.”

The opening of the Inpatient RehabCenter follows the recent opening of NNMC’s Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center which provides rehabilitation on an outpatient basis.

“We are pleased to offer comprehensive rehabilitation in convenient locations for patients in Sparks and the surrounding communities,” said McCaw. “This continuity of care makes a big difference in the recovery of our patients.”
