Gibbons announces education reform proposal

SAGE Commission presents governor with final report
The SAGE Commission has produced six reports with more than 40 recommendations. Some of the most recent recommendations include reducing costs to the state by reducing the use of outside contractors for work that could be done by state employees, updating the budget process leading to zero base budgeting and creating a Nevada State Grants Coordinator position to enable to state to identify and apply for federal grants that are not currently being sought.
Artown awarded $20,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant
For the second consecutive year the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has awarded Artown $20,000, this time for the 2010 festival, one of only two grants awarded to Nevada-based organizations. As the nation’s largest funder of the arts, NEA’s one-year Access to Artistic Excellence grant helps Artown to bring a diverse array of arts and culture to Reno, Nev., through the entire month of July.
