aces-300x233-4675814-1154326The Arizona Diamondbacks and Reno Aces baseball clubs have renewed their player development contract through the 2012 season, the teams jointly announced today.

The D-backs partnered with the Tucson Sidewinders for 11 seasons before continuing the relationship when the franchise was relocated to Reno, Nev. in 2009. The D-backs and Aces signed a two-year renewal agreement today at Aces Ballpark.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to maintain our relationship with the Arizona Diamondbacks,” said Aces Managing Partner Stuart Katzoff. “The D-backs are a first-class organization, and we’re proud to be their Triple-A partner. We look forward to moving into another season of Aces Baseball in Reno with the D-backs by our side.”

In the 2009 season, 25 players appeared for the Aces and also played in the Major Leagues. That season, seven members of the Arizona Diamondbacks were sent to Reno on a Major League rehabilitation assignment, including shortstop Stephen Drew. This season, 20 players have played for the Aces and the D-backs. Five players have been sent to Reno on Major League rehabilitation assignments, including catcher Miguel Montero and relief pitcher Leo Rosales.

“The Katzoff family and other members of the Aces ballclub have been tremendous to work with since we began our relationship after they purchased our Triple-A affiliate club two years ago,” said D-backs’ President & CEO Derrick Hall. “We are looking forward to continuing our relationship and providing baseball fans in the Reno area exciting games to watch in the future as our promising young minor league players advance throughout our player development system.”

Hall, Katzoff and former Major League All-Star and D-backs’ Special Assistant to the President & CEO Luis Gonzalez will be recognized during tonight’s game. Hall, Katzoff and Gonzalez will be available to the media at 6:30 p.m. today in front of the home dugout at Aces Ballpark.
