Sen. Harry Reid today announced $8,239,407 to upgrade three airports in Nevada. The Reno/Stead Airport will receive $4,423,607 to enhance runway safety while Carson Airport will use $115,800 to build a taxiway. Both airports are reliever airports, which are used when primary commercial airports reach capacity.
Owyhee Airport, which is located within the Duck Valley Indian Reservation and owned by the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes, will receive $3.7 million to realign the runway to meet design standards and to construct a new access road and several aprons.
“These grants will improve our airports and make them safer for Nevadans and every visitor who to travels to our great state,” Reid said. “The Travel Promotion Act will attract tourists from around the world to Nevada, and it’s vital that our airports are capable of serving each one of them as they give our economy a boost.”
