SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

A night of Eastern European and Russian culture comes to Reno as the Sierra Nevada Balalaika Orchestra and special guest, the Trio Voronezh, host “Sunset Serenade,” a lively performance by a talented assembly of musicians dedicated to the traditions of their ancestors.  The show will take place at 7PM on Saturday, September 18th, at the intimate outdoor Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch Regional Park, located at 6000 Bartley Ranch Road, Reno, NV 89511.

The Sierra Nevada Balalaika Society has brought this unique music to Reno for nearly 20 years, educating the local community about the distinctive arts and music custom to Russia and Eastern Europe.  The orchestra and guest vocalists will entertain attendees with the sounds of traditional folk songs featuring popular instruments such as the bayan, balalaika, and domra.

Graduates of the Academy of Music in Voronezh, Russia, the Trio Voronezh has performed in venues from Germany, France and the Netherlands to countless concert halls across the United States with various orchestras, including the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and the Oregon Bach Music Festival.  Recognized by the Los Angeles Times as a “Russian trio [that] brings many genres, and crowds to life…,” the Trio Voronezh will present a repertoire that ranges from classical Bach, Tchaikovsky, and Vivaldi to Russian folk music and popular tunes.

“The Sunset Serenade will bring an evening of fun and tradition to Reno residents in the beautiful outdoor setting of the Hawkins Amphitheater,” said Zeny Ocean, founder of the Sierra Nevada Balalaika Society. “We are passionate about sharing Russian and Eastern European history and culture with the audience through our music.”

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door for general admission with open seating and can be purchased at Maytan Music Center, Sundance Bookstore and Dose’s Pet Vets.  For more information about the “Sunset Serenade” concert and/or the Sierra Nevada Balalaika Society, please call Zeny Ocean at 775-746-1809/775-329-1333 or Natalie Sherrick at 775-331-0315, or visit www.sierrabalalaika.org.
