Gaining momentum in recent public polls while expanding her campaign team, U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle today named Jarrod Agen as the campaign’s communications director. Agen will oversee the campaign’s public and media relations activity as well as manage the campaign’s rapid response to Harry Reid’s negative attacks.
Agen will work jointly with Press Secretary Jerry Stacy and Deputy Communications Director Ciara Matthews. Jordan Gehrke, who was serving as interim communications director, will focus on his role as deputy campaign manager.
“We are excited to fill out our communications shop with an experienced professional like Jarrod Agen, whose experience with press operations on high-profile national races and state races will be a major asset to our campaign,” said Stacy.
“We are entering the final three months of the campaign with momentum and a full communications unit poised to spread Sharron Angle’s message of cutting wasteful spending and bringing jobs back to Nevada.” said Gehrke. “I’m proud of the communications team we’ve brought together for the home stretch to finally free Nevada voters of the reckless spending ways of Harry Reid.”
Most recently, Agen served as communications director for Steve Poizner’s California gubernatorial campaign.
Agen previously served as deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, specializing in immigration and border security issues. He was the regional communications director for Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign.
Agen’s experience includes working for the Ohio Republican Party during President George W. Bush’s re-election in 2004 and as the director of press logistics for the 2004 Republican National Convention. He’s also held positions with the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and MSNBC.
