Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Silver Plus Performance Achievement Award.  The award recognizes Saint Mary’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.

“We are proud to be recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines program for compliance with care protocol and prevention guidelines,” said Mike Uboldi, president and CEO of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. “This award reinforces our #1 quality ranking in northern Nevada for Medicare’s core measures in caring for heart failure and heart attack patients.”

To receive the Get With The Guidelines Stroke Silver Plus Performance Achievement Award, Saint Mary’s achieved at least 12 consecutive months of 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines Stroke Performance Achievement indicators and met quality measures including aggressive use of medications, cholesterol reducing drugs and smoking cessation, all aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.

Additionally, Saint Mary’s received participation recognition for the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure program which provides hospital staff evidence-based guidelines and care procedures for heart failure patients.  The program includes quality-improvement measures such as care maps, discharge protocols, standing orders and measurement tools.  This quick and efficient use of guidelines enables Saint Mary’s to improve the quality of care it provides to heart failure patients.
