Local Sagebrush Chapter of Trout Unlimited announces beginning of the 2011 Kroening Endowment grant application cycle

Date:

The Sagebrush Chapter of Trout Unlimited announces the beginning of the 2011 Kroening Endowment grant application cycle. The Sagebrush Chapter, through the Kroening Endowment, annually funds conservation, research and education projects that are shown to benefit the coldwater fisheries in and around northern Nevada.

In January 2010, the Sagebrush Chapter funded four projects totaling nearly $25,000. The expectation is that this year’s funding will exceed that amount. The four projects funded for 2010 included two conservation projects in the area of Independence Lake and the Upper Little Truckee River, one education project along the Carson River and one research project in conjunction with the Nevada Department of Wildlife and regarding Lahontan Cutthroat Trout.

Mike Caltagirone, President of the Sagebrush Chapter, has high expectations for this grant cycle: “Last year was our first funding cycle and the number and quality of the applications were fantastic. As awareness of our grant program grows throughout the area and the conservation community, we expect even more quality projects will apply for funding. Our chapter is very excited about this year’s prospects.”

The application package including instructions, deadlines and requirements is currently available on the Sagebrush Chapter website (www.sagebrushtu.org). Potential applicants are encouraged to download the package and contact the chapter grant Ambassador, Randel Stevens, ([email protected]) for assistance in completing the application. Applications will be accepted from May 15, 2010 to Oct 1, 2010 The Sagebrush Chapter is the local affiliate for Trout Unlimited which is a national non-profit organization celebrating its 50th anniversary and dedicated to preserving, sustaining, reconnecting and conserving coldwater fisheries habitats.
