Carson City: The Nevada Arts Council presents “Carson Bound” a series of watermedia drawings by Rossitza Todorova, on display June 14 through July 16, 2010 as part of the Office eXhibition Series (OXS). An artist talk and reception will be held Thursday, July 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
Inspired by her daily commute from Reno to Carson City, the exhibit depicts in flowing abstracted landscapes her travels on Highway 395.
Todorova’s drawings depict a winding road speeding into the Nevada desert, interrupted by manmade signs, telephone poles, lights and highway markers. Todorova explores how man alters nature through the desire for movement and travel, resulting in the horizontal and lateral markings of our physical and visual spaces. She is interested in manmade roads, bridges, and infrastructure that project out from the suburban edges of our cities into what is still undeveloped open space.
A Bulgarian born artist and Reno resident, Todorova has been exhibited throughout Nevada, including solo shows at the Nevada Museum of Art and Sierra Arts Gallery. She received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts Degree from UNR, and has recently been accepted into the Herberger Institute for Design and the Masters in Fine Art Program in Drawing at Arizona State University.
