SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Sen. Harry Reid today thanked Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, for visiting the Reno/Sparks area at his request on Wednesday to see the Truckee River Flood Project.

“I appreciate Assistant Secretary Darcy’s willingness to come to Nevada today to see this important project firsthand,” Reid said. “I asked her to visit Nevada to experience this large, complex project and to see the strong community support for moving forward on it quickly with the Corps’ help. The flood control and prevention services this project will provide are vital to the communities of Reno and Sparks, especially to businesses, private property owners and local agriculture producers.”

The Truckee River Flood Project is a large, complex project designed to provide flood damage reduction, restore 50 miles of the Truckee River’s ecosystem, enhance fish passage and provide additional recreational opportunities. A consortium of Washoe County, the cities of Sparks and Reno, the University of Nevada, Reno and the United States Army Corp of Engineers sponsors the project.
